“The Therapy of Thanksgiving”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
There are times in life we find ourselves dealing with multiple challenges, which generally bring us to react in numerous positive and negative ways. Our typical reaction to anything out of the ordinary is shock, anger, and or complete rejection of God, if it lasts longer then we think it should. We forget or do not choose to stop and thank God for deeming us spiritually mature enough to go through those trials; or perhaps we don’t know God allows situations to come into our lives to show us where we are in our relationship with Him.
God blessed me with what I call a key of life, it is one of the greatest keys in my spiritual possession; it is the key of peace in troubled times. That doesn’t mean I automatically have total peace in the storms it just means I know God has a purpose in each storm.
Many years ago as I was going through what I thought at the time, was one of the most difficult challenges one could go through; that’s when God offered me this key through a brother in Christ.
Bro. Ron Kendall at Shawnee Baptist Church was my Sunday school teacher at the time and asked if I would like to listen to a cassette tape (that dates this for sure), he had gotten while at pastor school. It was a sermon that Dr. Jack Hyles had preached entitled “The Therapy of Thanksgiving”.
I agreed to listen and went straight home and did so; what a change it has made in my life. It is so much easier to stand in the midst of a trial when you are assured that Christ is in control. I had never thought of giving thanks for what I thought was the bad things, but God’s word was telling me that’s what I needed to do in order to move on. (I have searched for many years for that sermon to add to my personal library and to share with others but have not been able to find it again, when we do, we will make it available to our readers.)
I could never begin to thank the Lord for the wonderful gift of wisdom He gave me through Bro. Ron and Dr. Hyles; it has forever changed my life.
With that, I would like to dedicate this wonderful series of "Trials to Blessings" to God, Bro. Ron Kendall and Dr. Jack Hyles.
Thank you all for how you have given me a wonderful gift that has helped me and those God allows me to reach.
